The Menard Tennis Center hosts an international tournament

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) – The John and Fay Menard YMCA Tennis Center in Eau Claire has been a great asset to the game since it was built a few years ago, including hosting state tennis events last year. This week, the center will host some of the world’s best and upcoming players.

The tennis center hosts the International Tennis Federation (ITF) junior tournament. The action started last week and will run until Friday. It has players aged 18 or under from 16 different countries.

Viewers are welcome to watch, masks are required. The final of the event is on Friday.

There is an exciting time for Matt Boughton, the director of tennis center, as the future of tennis is seen in the Chippewa Valley.

“These are players on their way to becoming professional tennis players, they are all 18 years of age and younger. This is the first time we have hosted ITF J5. This is the first time our stand has hosted ITF J5. The section consists of Wisconsin, Minnesota , North Dakota and South Dakota.These are the starting point for this ITF professional path.These tournaments are played all over the world, and there are many, but not many, in the states, so it’s great to have one here in Western Wisconsin.
