What the new salaries mean to Coombs in Washington

The Ohio State football program has not been made through coaching changes. There have already been several of them, and it looks like Ryan Day wants a complete overhaul of the defense staff. It looks like only one head coach will miss last year.

The coach is Larry Johnson, who may still decide to retire. Day made two new salaries in defense today. He hired former Jaguars assistant coach Tim Walton to coach the secondary. He is a former Buckeye player from the 90s who is highly regarded by coaches.

Ohio State also hired Cincinnati corner defender coach Perry Eliano to train for safety. This means that Buckeyes has hired two assistant coaches to handle the secondary now. This means that Kerry Coombs’ time with the program seems to be over.

Coombs ’departure is sad, but not unexpected, that his term as defense coordinator was devastating and changes had to be made. However, he doesn’t seem to be the only defensive coach to be marginalized as a result of this hiring.

It also seems likely that Al Washington will not return as a linebackers coach. Jim Knowles will coach line players next season in addition to defense coordination. This means that Day made big changes in the defense after a devastating season on the other side of the ball.

These are the kind of changes that needed to be made. Ryan Day knows the Ohio State football program is an elite program and 2021 is unacceptable. I give him all the glory in the world to make these changes and not just sit down.

I wonder how these changes will lead to improvements for Buckeyes. The season only starts in September, but these changes have made me excited to see what this team can do on the field.
