The journalists’ association is dissatisfied with Novak Djokovic’s behavior in an interview with L’Equipe before the 2022 Australian Open

A journalist association has hit Novak Djokovic after it turns out he arrived for an interview knowing he had a Covid-19.

He said in a statement on Instagram: “I felt obliged to go ahead and do an interview with L’Equipe because I didn’t want to deceive the reporter. I was socially distant and wearing a mask except when my photo was taken.

After the interview, I went home to isolate myself for the required amount of time when I thought this was a mistake of judgment and I accept that I should have postponed this commitment.

The Serb has become embroiled in controversy on arrival in Melbourne unvaccinated and relying on a medical exception to compete.

He was initially held for four days after the Australian Border Force refused his visa, but was eventually released on Monday when a judge overturned the decision. Australian Immigration Minister Alex Hawke could still revoke Djokovic’s visa a second time before the Australian Open begins on January 17th.

Now the International Tennis Writers Association (ITWA) has added its voice to the criticism.

ITWA told CNN that the news that Novak Djokovic did not tell one of our members and the rest of the LEquipe team that day that he had a positive Covid-19 test.

As suppliers, we follow all applicable Covid-19 rules and expect all players to do the same.

It should also be noted that journalists must be fully vaccinated to travel to Melbourne for this year’s Australian Open.

Djokovic, a nine-time winner of the Australian Open, has also claimed that an administrative error on the part of his support team led to a false announcement that he had not traveled for two weeks before his flight to Australia.

The Australian Open will begin on January 17th.
