D-III West Weekend Hockey Wrap – College Hockey

The winning streak in St. Norberts remains unchanged after a tough game against Lake Forest on Saturday.

The Green Knights won Forresters overtime 7-6 Saturday.

St. Nobert, the winner of 12 consecutive games, finished eighth in the DCU / USCHO NCAA Division III Men’s poll over the weekend.

But it was on the verge of shock when the Forresters missed three goals on the road with just over 13 minutes left in play.

Peter Bates scored three consecutive goals, bringing the season to a total of 18 as he helped the Green Knights rally and push the game into the OT. He scored a total of four goals and has scored 133 points in his career, elevating him to seventh ever. He has scored 55 goals in his career.

Michael McChesney scored in less than two minutes in OT and lifted St. Norbert to victory.

Green Knights scored 50 and Lake Forest 23.

However, Forresters took advantage of their three power game opportunities. Noah Furman, Matteas Derraugh, and Hardy Wagner redeemed all of these opportunities. David Cohen led Forresters with a goal and two assists. Furman also scored.

Bluegolds back on track

UW-Eau Claire started the weekend with a three-match losing streak. The Blugolds are leaving the weekend at a brisk pace.

They swept a couple of games against Concordia (Minnesota) and beat the Cobbers 3-2 on Friday and 4-0 on Saturday.

Ryan Green played a key role in the win when he scored the first goal of his career and also split two assists. Ryan Ouellette scored a big goal in his fifth win this year, stopping 22 shots in the closing situation.

Sammy Martell, Connor Koviak and Jordan Randall also scored for Blugolds, who improved to 6-9 and won their first game in 2022.

UW-Eau Claire won Friday’s game after a strong start. The Blugolds jumped 2-0 ahead of the opening period and never looked back. Randall, Quinn Green and Connor Szmul scored all over Oulette.

Cobbers almost folded and scored two goals in the third set. Tyler Bossert and Cole OConnell scored for Concordia.

Exciting outcome in the Battle of Highway 41 series

Marian appeared to be on her way to a convincing victory from Lawrence in the Battle of Highway 41 on Saturday night before the Vikings used a furious demonstration to force overtime.

And while Lawrence lost 2-1 in the penalty shootout when both teams were tied after 5-5 regulation and OT, Vikings hold on to the desired race prize for a draw.

Zach Olen scored Lawrence’s only goal in the penalty shootout, but Sabers scored from Jaymes Knee and Austin Nault to win the penalty shootout.

Marian dominated with 42-38 advantage in the shots.

Losing 2-1, Sabers scored the next four goals to push ahead 5-2. Parker Colley, Nathan Walker, Nolan Kadachuk and Nick Cherkowski all scored during this stretch.

But the Vikings fought back when Akhmed Malsagov, Olen and Ivan Galaguzov scored and equalized 5-5.

Mosquera blocked 37 shots in an exciting game and Colby Muise blocked 33 shots.

In Friday’s game, Vikings scored three goals in the third set. Zach Lodes ended the night with two goals and a pass, while Mosquera blocked 24 times.

Lawrence is now 5-7-2 overall and 3-41 NCHA. Marian is 6-7-3 in the overall standings and 1-6-2 in the league.

The Raiders deserve a split

MSOE won their first overtime game at home since 2018 when it beat Trine on Saturday 4-3. Kyle Herbster scored the winning goal at OT 4:05. It was the third game win of his career and the second goal of the evening.

The Raiders followed 2-1 before going above 3-2. Trine equalized 3-3 in the third inning after Brendan Prappas scored a goal.

Darius Bell blocked 22 shots in the Raiders and Shane Brancato blocked 33 shots in the Thunder.

Trine opened the weekend with a win of 6-4 and set a program record for season wins. The win for them was the 14th of the year.

Thunder dominated the gate and led 4-1 after one game session.

Thad Marcola and Prappas both scored a goal for Thunder, who survived the Raiders late rally, scoring twice in the third set.

The Thunder is 14-5 overall and 8-4 in the league. The MSOE is 5-8-2 and 3-5-1 overall.

The Auggies arrest the royals

Fourth-placed Augsburg got everything Bethel could handle in the finals of their weekend MIAC series, holding on to a 3-2 win over the Royals.

The Auggies and Royals were tied 1-1 and 2-2 before Erik Palmquvist beat the winner of the game at the end of the second round and led Augsburg to their sixth consecutive win.

Bethel has been one of the surprise teams of the year at the MIAC, and after losing 8-2 on Friday, the Kings recovered and played much better when they almost ended up upset.

Nick Ketola and Jarrett Cammarata both scored a goal and shared the entry point, while Ridge Gerads defeated the Royals 34 times, who are 9-6-1 overall and 2-4-1 MIAC.

Augsburg improved 15-2 overall and 7-1 at the conference. Gavin Holland and Jarod Blackowiak scored for Auggies and Samuel Vyltelka fought back 26 times for his sixth win.

Oles enjoys a weekend sweep

St. Olaf made the statement Friday night in his first win over UW-River Falls in more than a decade.

Oles won the 4-2 Falcons, who won votes in last week’s DCU / USCHO NCAA Division III men’s poll, and the win is their first from UW-River Falls since November 2008.

Sean Walsh scored twice, including a goal, and he also scored an entry point on the night of the first three points of his career. It’s also the first time he’s scored two goals in a college-level game.

St. Olaf led 2-1 after the first set, but Walsh equalized less than two minutes after the second and scored in the third set.

Tyler Cooper also scored a goal and placed his team in 10th place of the season. He has scored eight goals in the last five games. Ashton Altmann also scored.

Lukas Haugen took his second victory of his career and fought back 30 times.

Oles (6-7-3) ended the weekend with a 4-3 win over UW-Stout and is unbeaten in their final four games.

The first set of three goals made Oles turn against Blue Devils, while Haugen defeated 27 goals.

Altmann, Eric Brown Evan Shoemaker and Jonathan Young all scored for Oles. Young extended their scoring to four matches.

Yellow jackets continue the series

UW-Superior has found the consistency they’ve been looking for after stretching their unbeaten series to seven games on Saturday, beating Gustavus 3-1.

The Yellowjackets won their fourth consecutive game and improved 10-4-2 overall. They have won a total of five games in the current losing streak.

Zach Bannister helped level the way and scored the goal.

Gavin Rasmussen and Chad Lopez also scored goals for UW-Superior, which is 22-4-4 from their last 30 home games. The success dates back to January 2019. Bannister’s goal was his Fifth Season.

Lopez scored his sixth goal of the season and ended the stretch, playing eight games without scoring a goal.

Miles Hektor handled things at the finish, stopping 30 shots in his third consecutive start. He has won seven games.

Superior opened the weekend Friday with a 3-2 OT win over Saint Johns.

Reed Stark scored the game winning goal at OT. This is his sixth goal in the last five matches, including his second winning goal.

Nick Michel and Max Borst both scored for Johnnie, whose six-match winning streak ended.
