Chicago police command staff bear as much blame as their chief

A few facts should be kept in mind when reading the recent Sun-Times story about Chicago police chiefs losing faith in the superintendent. David Brown, primarily that the sources cited are mostly high-ranking command personnel.

Each of them accepted their promotion, pay raises, and the status Brown bestowed on them without any apparent understanding that with rank comes responsibility. There were, of course, many failures during Brown’s tenure, but these top officials bear just as much blame as their leader.

Instead of owning up to these failures and ultimately living up to the oath they freely swore in striving to correct them, these officials are shifting the blame upstairs and even allegedly threatening to do an even worse job this year. thereby causing more suffering to the public just so they can make a point. All because a few whiners under them consider themselves too good to get back into uniform, patrol the streets, and answer when the public calls for help.

Excuse me, but isn’t that what they signed up for to begin with? These undeserving people do not deserve a platform; the public deserves much better.

Lots of blame for everyone

I can see why many lose faith in the best cop. It’s pretty obvious just by looking at the crime statistics. But we all know there’s a lot of blame to be had.

We still have to deal with the problem of repeat offenders getting off too soon. We must make the laws even tougher for crimes committed with firearms. We need to support our police officers and help them do the best job possible. We must all support solving these problems today to keep us all safe.

The writing is on the wall

Apparently some commanders and supervisors have lost faith in the superintendent. Brown as head of the nation’s third-largest police department. If you’re not your own man and are at Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s disposal and basically let her run the department, you’ll never have the respect of the officers and commanders under you.

It’s like a general leading his troops: if they don’t respect you, they won’t follow you. So you have to tell the mayor, let me run the police department and you run the city.

If that can’t happen, you should quit and move on because she will always have you wrapped around her finger, especially when she has no idea how to run the police department. It is time to move on. If your commanders don’t support you, then the writing is on the wall.
