Ian Wright and Michael Owen agreed West Ham had only themselves to blame following a controversial VAR decision that went the way of Manchester United in stoppage time as the Red Devils secured a priceless 1-0 victory.

The Irons were well deserved a point after holding Ralf Ragnick’s side at arm’s length in an even game that looked destined to end scoreless until the very last act of the game.

Ralf Ragnick’s three second-half substitutes, Anthony Martial, Edinson Cavani and Marucs, all combined to take the roof off Old Trafford in the 93rd minute to seal the most important win of his interim tenure.

But the overwhelming emotion was one of relief after VAR ruled the Uruguay forward was narrowly onside when he received the ball.

Rather than regret such a close decision against them, Premier League legends Wright and Owen felt that Jarrod Bowen was responsible for conceding an unnecessary goal.

The former Hull City winger has been in splendid form of late and is pushing for a place in the England squad, but his inability to control the ball deep in United territory has given United the opportunity to launch a breathtaking counter-attack from which they won the Game.

“It was an invaluable goal, it was actually scored from the bench. From Martial to Cavani to Rashford, the three players Rangnick has all brought together and it shows you how important the bench is,’ Owen told Premier League Productions.

“It was a good team goal. Martial waited for just the right moment. But Bowen is there in the dying seconds…David Moyes will be a bit unhappy to lose the ball. Then United pounce and he’s just wide.

Wright agreed, adding: “I think West Ham will be very disappointed with this.” Obviously, Jarod Bowen, you have to do more to keep that ball and finish this game. Then all of a sudden, they’re all irrelevant.
