Sue Gray report: What could the possible outcomes mean for Boris Johnson? | News

[ad_1]

Boris Johnson’s premiership is in deeper peril than ever before.

Conservative MPs are furious with the self-inflicted political wound of the Downing Street parties saga.

But there are still lots of variables in play. It is not clear if, or when, Sir Graham Brady, the chairman of the 1922 committee of Conservative backbenchers, will receive 54 letters of discontent from MPs, triggering a confidence vote.

Even if that happened, it is not clear whether Johnson would attain the 50 per cent support required to win.

Much will hinge on when Sue Gray’s report into the parties is published, and in what form MPs are able to read it.
