🌱 3.3 earthquake + NNSA helicopter flying in a net over Los Angeles

[ad_1]

Good morning, Los Angeles folks, and Happy National Day! Sylvia is here with the Wednesday Los Angeles Daily.

Did you feel the earthquake? Why is the National Nuclear Security Administration flying a helicopter so low over the city? Finally, UCLA lecturers are under lock and key.

First, today’s weather:

Sunny and fun. High: 70 Low: 43.

Here are the top five stories today in Los Angeles:

A 3.3-magnitude earthquake struck Tuesday morning at 9:26 a.m. “The strongest tremors were felt around the South Gateway, Gardena, Whittier and Los Angeles areas.” Dr. Lucy Jones has been recorded saying that she was in Cudahy and about 14 km (about 8.7 miles) deep. (Patch, DrLucyJones) Have you noticed a helicopter flying low over the area? And the National Nuclear Security Administration explained, Monday, that this helicopter is part of its unit. They fly “low and slow in a grid pattern over parts of the area as part of preparations for the Super Bowl festivities.” (NNSANews) A video titled “Mass Shooting in Philosophy at UCLA” led to the school’s closing of campuses and a return to Zoom classes on Tuesday. It was published by a “former post-doctoral fellow” who was a former lecturer. The suspect, who was arrested in Boulder, Colorado, “was placed on vacation last spring due to allegations that he sent pornography to a student.” The school made advisors available to students and faculty. (Patch) A report released Tuesday confirmed that Los Angeles saw a 71% increase in hate crimes. Records from California’s Center for Hate and Extremism in San Bernardino show that 615 hate crimes were reported to the Los Angeles Police Department in 2021. While black individuals make up 8% of Angelenos, they were subjected to 148 alleged hate crimes. This number “jumped 91% compared to 2020”. (KTLA) We learned Monday that the Port of Los Angeles and the Port of Shanghai will collaborate to create “the world’s first green shipping lane.” However, it may take some time before the action is taken. A plan is due to be implemented by the end of the year, and concrete steps, such as the “world’s first carbon-neutral trans-Pacific container ships”, are not expected to be introduced until 2030.
