At 9:19 am, the S&P BSE Sensex was down 1,311.16 points (2.23 per cent) at 57,522.71, while the Nifty 50 was trading at 17,170.40, down 388.50 points (2.21 per cent).

The frontline equity indices on the BSE and National Stock Exchange (NSE) opened around 2 per cent lower on Monday taking cues from their global peers which fell after the head of the US Federal Reserve indicated high interest rates will continue for some time to curb inflation .

All the Sensex constituents were trading in the red in the early deals led by Tech Mahindra, Infosys, HCL Technologies, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Wipro, Tata Steel, State Bank of India (SBI) and HDFC Bank.
