Sir Jeremy Farrar, WHO Chief Scientist, has appointed Dr. Amelia Latu Afuhamango Tupulutu as Chief Nursing Officer.

Dr. Farrar Prior to joining Wellcome in 2013, he is a clinical scientist who spent 17 years as the Director of Clinical Research at the Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Vietnam, where his research interests were in global health with a focus on infectious diseases.

Under Dr. Farrar, Wellcome will focus on funding breakthrough research projects to change the understanding of life, health and well-being and support science-based solutions, including infectious disease, mental health and the impact of climate change on health.

Dr Farrar is a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences UK, the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO), the US National Academies and the Royal Society.

As WHO’s Chief Nursing Officer, Dr. Tuipulutu uses her skills and experience in caring for and supporting nurses and midwives to strengthen health systems and strengthen their critical role in bringing patients, communities and national health systems together. .
