Mode has been one of the pillars of TikTok that has helped propel the social media platform’s immense popularity, and recently men’s style videos have become one of its most popular categories.
Men’s style is a consistently growing topic on TikTok, with #mensfashion amassing 10.8 billion views. This growth can be attributed to the growing number of creators using the platform to offer style tips, tutorials and guides for specific events or types of clothing.
Julian Carter, Nolan White and Parker York Smith are three boys mode influencers who stand out on the platform for their content, take a personal approach to their videos that are both educational and entertaining. Influencers also incorporate their backgrounds into their content, such as Carter, who looks to his engineering work to educate his followers about different materials and how light reflects off different fabrics.
Here, the three influencers share insights on their content strategy and why they think TikTok is the best platform for men’s style content.

Julian Carter has taken a different approach to creating men’s style content on TikTok, blending his engineering background with a love of DIY projects and punk-inspired fashion.
“I’ve been in fashion for a long time, so [my style] is a blend of what I’ve seen in the past and a mix of all the different trends that I find interesting,” said the 25-year-old content creator. “Right now, it’s very focused on a lot of Japanese brands. It’s punk-influenced, a DIY deconstructed type of look and a lot of it’s also functionality-based.
Carter, who works full time as an engineer in Huntsville, Alabama, started posting his fashion content on TikTok in 2020 and has grown his platform to more than 310,000 followers. He was intrigued by the DIY fashion tutorials people were posting during quarantine and saw there was white space to offer the same type of content, but geared towards men’s style.
She’s maintained that strategy for the past two years, with most of her videos focusing on thrift or sewing projects. Carter also incorporates his engineering background into his content, creating educational videos that provide insight into how materials like Velcro or retroreflectors work.
Carter explained that he previously posted his fashion content on fashion forums and Instagram, but now prefers TikTok because it is a more organic and authentic way to share his style.
“My problem with Instagram is you can’t really see much behind the scenes of how clothes actually work because sometimes in a picture you can hide a lot, but in a video, you can’t,” she says. “You can learn a lot from videos. I think that’s one of the reasons people like it [my content] a lot because you can see how this thing is put together or how I wear it compared to the pictures.
Carter’s content has attracted the attention of several major companies that have asked him for brand deals. The creator has worked with the likes of Depop, eBay, Grailed, Vans, Banana Republic, Walmart and others.
Nolan White @nolandanielwhite

Nolan White began posting his fashion content on TikTok as a way to push himself creatively with his style in January 2021, and has eventually earned more than 184,000 followers who seek his advice on fashion, grooming and lifestyle.
“I put a lot of emphasis on fashion going forward and building a wardrobe as a long-term project, not just a one-and-done project or something to come out really quickly,” says the Montreal-based 21-year-old content. creator. “I think it resonates with people. I’ve always approached videos like how am I as someone who might be a little insecure about their style or feel like they don’t have anything bad, how can I help those people find something they’re comfortable with and that they’re going to be able to express themselves.”
White still posts her own clothes on her platform, but also offers style recommendations and answers questions from her followers. It covers everything from a collection of vintage watches to fall outfit ideas, jacket reviews or small fashion boutiques to shop in the Montreal area. He also offers content that talks about men’s grooming, fragrances, lifestyle, and home décor.
Creators have recently turned to style guides for their followers, whether they be gift guides or tutorials on how to style a particular color palette. Through his content, White has partnered with brands such as eBay, Grailed, Boy Smells, Hodinkee and others.
“I’ve always acted on the principle of ‘is this something I want to see?’” he says of his content strategy. “That’s the main reason why I started creating more information. I felt like there wasn’t enough content to talk about the things I liked, so I just thought, ‘do I want to watch this video?’ Plus, I usually do what people ask and I thought if I can provide value to people and get them to watch the full video then I add some value and it serves a purpose.”
Parker York Smith @parkeryorksmith

Parker York Smith has been creating content about men’s style since 2015, posting first on blogs and Instagram before turning to TikTok at the start of the pandemic. 36 year old man based in Los Angeles influencer quickly took a look at the white space on TikTok for informative guy-style videos and pivoted his content strategy accordingly.
“I pretty much invented a new approach with TikTok because it’s really fun to answer people’s questions directly,” he says. “When I first started, it seemed like no one in particular was doing that. Being able to literally see 20 people asking a similar version of the same question gave me the idea that, OK, this is something most people are curious about, so let’s make a video about it and then see how to turn it into a little story. I really try to get myself into the minutiae, so I think I’m reinventing my presentation style for TikTok.
Smith posts a series of men’s style informational content, ranging from videos on how to style a cardigan or turtleneck sweater to ideas for date night or movie night outfits. She explains that her content focusing on wedding outfits has become some of her most popular videos. Smith has created videos that focus on traditional wedding attire, but also offer more creative styling options, such as how to style an emerald green or burgundy suit for a wedding. Smith’s content has helped him grow his TikTok following to nearly 950,000 followers.
“Surprisingly, I’ve never been a suit and tie person. It was never mine [style] approach on Instagram,” Smith said of his content. “However, those videos have become my bread and butter on TikTok – especially content directly related to marriage. Teaching people how to dress whether for their own wedding or when they’re attending all kinds of weddings with all the different crazy themes that people use today.
Smith’s educational content has helped him secure several brand deals over the years, including with brands like Abercrombie & Fitch, Dockers, Lucky Brand, American Crew and YSL Beauty. It influencer was also tapped by Express to appear in the brand’s holiday campaign.
