The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said on Tuesday that cricket captain Rohit Sharma will miss the second Test against Bangladesh following his injury. Fast bowler Navdeep Saini has also been ruled out of the second Test against Bangladesh, the Indian cricket board said.
Rohit Sharma missed India’s 188-run win in the first Test against Bangladesh after picking up a blow to his thumb during the previous ODI series.
The BCCI said in a statement that the Medical Panel is of the opinion that the injury still needs some time to fully heal before the Indian captain can bat and play at full capacity. He will continue his rehabilitation and will not be available for the second and final Test against Bangladesh.
The Indian cricket board said Navdeep Saini has also been ruled out of the second Test as he is suffering from an abdominal strain. “Navdeep Saini has also been ruled out of the second Test due to an abdominal strain,” the BCCI said.
KL Rahul, who captained India in the first Test, continues as the alternate skipper.
The second Test starts on Thursday in Mirpur.
India’s squad for the second test against Bangladesh includes KL Rahul (captain), Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, KS Bharat, Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Shardul Thakur, U Mohammed Sidav Yaraj, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Saurabh Kumar, Jaydev Unadkat.
