Max Verstappen, 17, mounted an attack on Brazilian star Felipe Massa in response to harsh criticism: you should watch the race again

We know how much Max Verstappen pushes his limits and those of the other drivers on the track. While he is sometimes praised for his racing style, he is sometimes criticized for it. After a dangerous crash in the past, Felipe Massa has slammed the Dutchman for his recklessness. However, Verstappen didn’t appreciate the criticism too much and returned it to the Brazilian.

The battle for 10th place between Romain Grosjean and Max Verstappen at the 2015 Monaco GP turned out to be a thriller. Max was on the tail end of Grosjeans as the race progressed towards lap 68. If there are not many overtaking opportunities on the Monegasque circuit, Verstappen did not take them into account. He slit inside and cut Grosjeans at right back. The Dutchman crashed heavily into the barriers and saw his race come to an end.

The FIA, however, took no action and that did not sit well with Felipe Massa. Speaking ahead of the Canadian GP at a press conference, Massa said: I think he needs to be penalized because what he did was wrong. Firstly, he’s a seventeen year old and if you do something like that and you’re not penalized, that’s completely wrong.

Verstappen replied, I think everyone can have opinions, that’s the first thing. Maybe you should rewatch last year’s race and see what happened there.

Max was referring to the horrific crash caused by Massa in the 2014 Canadian GP. The crash was very similar to Verstappens as Massa rushed into Sergio Perez from the inside line. However, the Brazilian didn’t just end his own run but also Perezs. Both drivers suffered a major impact when they entered the barriers on the last lap.

Max Verstappen criticized for his aggressive racing style

How different people define Max Verstappen’s driving style depends on which side of the spectrum they are – Verstappen supporters or not. While Lewis Hamilton called it dangerous, Christian Horner thought it was his form of defence. Former F1 driver Bruno Giacomelli isn’t a fan either.

Looking at the results, Schumacher has won seven world championships, in 2020, Giacomelli told Motorsport Italian. Fangio won five, but Fangio won them with different cars and in a time when people were dying, you know what I mean?

Do you know what it means to die? It means that[Max] Verstappen, if he had driven the 80s cars that I drove, would have died at least three or four times.

Nowadays drivers are no longer afraid in a Formula 1 car, because they are very safe.
