Gov. Greg Abbott, R-Texas, tore the media apart after a veteran ABC reporter suggested Republican rhetoric was partly to blame for the crisis on the southern border.
Abbott responded to an excerpt from his interview with Martha Raddatz on Tuesday after she said she had never heard President Biden use the term “open border” while instead recounting such rhetoric from Abbott, the governor of Florida Ron DeSantis and former President Donald Trump.
Abbott told “Jesse Watters Primetime” that Raddatz’s claim that such messages “reverberate in Mexico and beyond” while being exploited by cartel smugglers is simply untrue.
“It’s just crazy to suggest something like that,” he said.

“It shows that the mainstream media really has no idea what’s going on at the border, as well as Joe Biden’s spokesperson, who said the border isn’t open.”
Abbott compared the Biden administration and the Trump era leads to the conclusion that the previous administration oversaw the most secure border in decades.
Unlike Biden, he said, Trump embraced the Remain in Mexico initiative, enforced Title 42’s pandemic-related deportation policy, ended the “capture and release” of illegal immigrants, and supported construction of a border wall.
“That’s what President Trump did, and we had the lowest border crossings in the last century,” he said.

“Now under Joe Biden, we have a record number of people crossing the border than ever before. It’s all because of Joe Biden’s policies.”
Host Jesse Watters asked if Abbott offered Raddatz an aerial view of the border crisis, which the governor said he did.
“Right after that interview, we got him into the helicopter and showed him exactly what was going on on the ground,” he said. “And the thing is, there are people crossing the border and Joe Biden is not doing anything about it.”

“And that’s exactly why Texas must step up and make extraordinary efforts never before undertaken by any state in the history of the United States to attempt to secure our border.”
Abbott pledged to continue busing migrants to sanctuary municipalities like Philadelphia, New York and Washington, adding that Mexican cartels are driving migrants to areas where federal agents are present because they know they will have more chance of being released only if they are released instead. apprehended by Texas state law enforcement.
