Whoopi Goldberg clarifies Holocaust comments following criticism
Whoopi Goldberg recently issued an apology after facing online backlash for reiterating her controversial Holocaust comments.
In a statement to E! News, The View co-host said, “It was never my intention to sound like I was doubling down on hurtful comments, especially after speaking to and hearing from people like rabbis and old friends and new weigh.
She pointed out, I’m still learning a lot and believe me, I heard everything everyone told me.
The Sister Act star also explained that she believes the Holocaust was about race and said her support for the Jewish community hasn’t wavered and never will.
The Oscar-winning actor said, “I’m still as sorry today as I was then for upsetting, hurting and angering people.
She commented, My sincere apologies again, especially to anyone who thought this was another rehash of the topic.
I promise not. In this time of rising anti-Semitism, I want to be very clear when I say that I have always stood with the Jewish people and always will, Whoopi added.
Meanwhile, the talk show host got in trouble when she claimed the Holocaust was not about race but rather man’s inhumanity to man in her interview with the British newspaper The Sunday Times.
