Mary Trump, the niece of former President Donald Trump, said Friday that she grew up listening to her family make racist remarks, Newsweek first reported.

“I would listen to racism in my family,” she said while appearing on “The Karen Hunter Show” podcast. “I don’t know what they’re talking about.”

The author and psychologist added that the “profanity of a whole class of people” was worlds apart from his own experience.

Mary did not refer to any of the derogatory racist remarks. However, he told The Washington Post in July 2020 that the Trump family often used racist and antisemitic slurs when he was a child. “Growing up, it was normal to hear them use the N-word or use antisemitic expressions,” he said.

Speaking to Rachel Maddow on MSNBC that month, Mary also said she heard the former president personally use the N-word and antisemitic slurs, which she denied at the time.

“I didn’t share their ideas about race and Judaism,” he told Maddow, per USA Today. “But you know, when you grow up completely normal, you don’t really think twice about it.”

In a podcast interview with Karen Hunter, Mary mentioned how her relatives interacted less than other races.

Her parents “didn’t have any Black friends,” she said. Mary’s father, Fred Trump Jr., is the former president’s younger brother.

And Mary said her grandparents, real estate developer and businessman Fred Trump Sr. and Mary Anne Trump, the former president’s parents, live in a mostly upper-middle-class Jamaica Estates neighborhood that was scandalized when “the first Italian family moved in .”

During his childhood, however, he told the podcast: “I walked on the subway every day to school, and I walked home, and I passed by Black-owned stores. Most of the people I met who were store and things are Black.”

Mary added that she “grew up with this unformed notion that racism is complete nonsense and anyone who subscribes to it is an idiot.”

Trump’s nephew has been a fierce critic of the former president in recent years.

He accused him of being a “fascist” and a “loser.” The former president referred to him as a “rarely-seen nephew” and a “trouble.”
