Women’s Lacrosse Earns Top 20 Ranking in USA Lacrosse Magazine/Nike Lacrosse Preseason Rankings

Richmond, Va.– The University of Richmond Women’s Lacrosse team cracked the USA Lacrosse Magazine/Nike Lacrosse Top 20 Division I preseason national rankings, landing at No. 20, USA Lacrosse Magazine/Nike Lacrosse announced Tuesday.

Coming off a 14-4 season, the Spiders look to carry their momentum into the new year as they enter the 2023 season as the only team in the Atlantic 10 Conference to finish in the top 20 nationally.

Richmond’s offense comes back with offense Arden Tierney (Port Washington, NY), who finished his 2022 season with second-team all-conference forward honors after totaling 98 draws, 72 points, 39 goals and 33 assists. Colleen Quinn (Summit, NJ) made an immediate impact as a freshman, playing in all 18 games and starting 17. He scored 57 points on 33 goals and 24 assists, earning him a spot on the A-10 All-Rookie Team. Alexis Morton (Manhasset, NY) is expected to make a big splash for Richmond’s offense this season as he enters his freshman year ranked in the Lacrosse Power 100 Incoming Freshman Rankings after scoring 102 points in his senior season at Manhasset High School.

The Spiders will benefit from the return of a veteran Lindsey Frank (Saratoga Springs, NY), who finished his 2022 junior season with First-Team All-Conference offensive honors after pacing the team with 72 points, 50 goals, 22 assists, 23 draws and 17 ground balls. Sophia DiCenso (Foxboro, MA) returns as the dominant A-10 midfielder of the year after posting impressive 2022 stats with 29 ground balls, 39 points, 32 goals and 7 assists in his senior season. Grace Muldoon(Bethesda, Md.) is coming off a strong freshman year in 2022 where he played in all 18 games with 33 points, 17 goals, 11 ground balls, 16 assists and 18 draws. Hannah Custer (Denver, Pa.) returns after a solid freshman year in which he started 17 in all 18 games. He had 19 points, 15 field goals and 11 rebounds, earning him a spot on the A-10 All-Rookie Team.

Richmond’s defense is back Maggie O’Brien (Berwyn, Pa.), who played and started in all 18 games and had 40 strikeouts, 28 groundouts and 11 caused runs. Jax Donohue (Kittery Point, Maine) will return to the defensive lineup after the 2022 season after 20 ground balls and 8 caused turnovers.

The 20th-ranked Spiders begin the 2023 season on Feb. 11 when they travel to Queens University of Charlotte.
