Why Lane Kiffin Didn’t Make Auburn Football

Lane Kiffin ended up making $9 million a year over the next eight years, though it’s likely Auburn’s boosters would have ponied up if given the chance. So why didn’t Lane Kiffin plateau?

First, Carnell “Cadillac” Williams was considered to be the assistant head coach regardless of who was hired as the head coach. Because Kiffin speaks about the Lane Kiffin brand perhaps more than anything else — as evidenced by this illustrious honor Ole Miss handed out for spending so much time on Twitter trolling Auburn fans — he probably didn’t like the idea that his potential replacement would be the right one . there was someone he had to keep on staff.

Another reason is that he may know that he will not get the same autonomy that he got at Oxford. AU is a different beast when it comes to needing booster targeting, and Hugh Freeze is perfect because he came in with no leverage because of his own offense at Ole Miss.
