A major earthquake has hit Indonesia, leading to fears of a deadly tsunami in the Pacific Ocean.
The Indonesian Geophysics Agency said the epicenter was at a depth of about 40 miles, 88 miles southeast of the small town of Milongwan in North Sulawesi province.
It is not clear if there have been any deaths or injuries. A local resident in Manado, the regional capital, told Reuters that they felt the quake very strong for several seconds, and people ran out of buildings, but there was no property damage.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center warned that the earthquake could trigger tsunamis up to 300 kilometers from the epicenter.
But the Indonesian agency said there was no danger of a tsunami.
A 7.5 magnitude earthquake struck Sulawesi in 2018 with a devastating impact. The earthquake and subsequent tsunami killed more than 4,000 people.
