DEEP DIVING: Scott Ramon Seguro Mescudi, aka Cudi’s sondig deep into fashion.
The rapper and actor sat surrounded by displays of his first full-length Members Of The Rage collection, for fall 2023, on the Right Bank Paris showroom on Thursday.
“I really wanted it to represent Scott Mescudi, who am I, ”he said. “I think anyone who knows me will be able to look at this collection and feel my passion in it.”
The artist is heavily inspired by nineties culture — grunge, hip-hop — and describes himself as a “super sci-fi freak.”
“So I wanted to add futuristic elements and stuff like this on top of it, to give it a little spin and make it a little bit more fun,” he continued. “It’s almost like a retro future-type vibe.”
Along one wall hung brown faux fur jackets, colorful floral print shirts and dresses, plus camouflage jackets in cool tones of egg blue, olive, and gray green.

Stir said the unisex collection, which comes after last year’s first T-shirt sale, will be sold worldwide at stores including Selfridges, Saks Fifth Avenue and H. Lorenzo. It blends into pieces: Knitting, then the leather jacket idea comes up.
“For a year I just thought about everything I wanted to create, everything I wanted to perfect,” he says.
Mescudi would look at the clothes in the shop and think: “If they change this color and they change that, it will be a dropper.”
One of the first things Mescudi wanted to make was a black-and-red distressed sweater that was an exact replica of the one Kurt Cobain was wearing. The varsity jacket with piping on the sleeves was another early creation.
“I feel like the style of varsity has been around for decades, and no one has really tried to freak it out or improve it or do anything new with it in all that time,” he says. “I want to try it.”
Mescudi drew the designs in his sketchbook and the results were exactly what he wanted.
He enjoyed mixing fabrics in unexpected ways. There are overalls made of sherpa, with tulle on top, for example.
“I always come up with ideas,” he continues. “If I’m in Tokyo, I see all kinds of vibrations. The fashion out there is so inspiring.
“I’m just a fashion fan,” added Mescudi who plans to go to the event Sakai show.
“Chitose [Abe] are my new friends, ”he said of the brand’s designer. “We met recently when I was in Tokyo and we hit it off really well. We’re actually working on something special. I can’t say exactly what it was.
The goal is for MOTR to eventually become a lifestyle brand. Meanwhile, Mescudi is still busy in other areas. He made a cameo in the recently released film “House Party”, and will appear as a father in “Crater”, from Disney Plus.
Mescudi will start writing his memoir next month, but his dream is to direct his own film.
“It’s up to you to make this line,” said Mescudi, about his fashion. “Doing this has given me a lot of confidence. I feel like I can do anything now. I’m really inspired.”
