Campbells Couture: Why you still need to dress warmly to the bar

Many continued to dress like summer as the winter nights howled. Not only should you dress warmly for style purposes, but we can also tell you’re underage.

Please, ladies, stop fighting the cold hoping someone will hand you a jacket, or even look cute. It’s just not worth it.

Whether it’s for a nice dinner or to the bar on a Friday night, you still have to dress up for the occasion. You can totally still look cute and stay warm on a night out.

Here’s my philosophy: If I want to wear a tank or a short-sleeved top, I always pair it with a coat on top. No, not a big, thick jacket. I always wear a cropped black puffer jacket. The size is cute enough to pair with jeans or other pants and the color is slim enough to go with just about anything. Plus, it keeps me warm while walking to and from Court Street.

Other jacket options include leather, oversized denim or even a thicker shacket (shirt jacket). A neutral colored jacket will complement a more colorful top underneath. Statement jackets, however, should be paired with a neutral colored top.

Whatever you do, don’t take a coat you don’t want to ruin. If it’s not easy to clean, leave it at home.

If I’m wearing a long-sleeved top or a thicker sweater, I might ditch the coat depending on the weather. My go-to is usually a cropped sweater or cardigan with a tank or bralette underneath. That way, I can stay warm while walking but take it off if I get too hot at the event.

Neutrals look great on anyone, but I love wearing funky patterned and colored sweaters when I go out. Common items that work well for this are faux leather pants, jeans, or flare leggings. They pair with almost any item combination.

If you’re totally against outerwear or sweaters, a great trick is to wear a cropped T-shirt over a light turtleneck top. I like to wear this for more casual evening outings. You can throw black or white under almost anything and tuck it under your bra. Then, you can let the t-shirt flow over it. You can give the illusion of a crop top but still warm and stylish.

I would never tell a woman that she isn’t wearing enough clothes. If you can bear the cold, stay away from me to prevent you from doing so. However, I am not one of those girls.

I hope this trick works for your next night. Remember, staying warm doesn’t mean you can’t look chic.
