Bielsa’s Merseyside word is that he wanted to come and work with the club’s under-21 side for the rest of the season until he takes charge of the seniors next season. Until then, an interim president will come along. Did anyone tell Shawn Dyche this?

Bear Andy Hunter:

Bielsa has informed Everton he will now join but will work behind the scenes until the end of the season, coaching the under-21s and younger players as the club adapt his methods. This would have left Everton in need of a caretaker manager for the perilous task of keeping them in the Premier League and it was not a position the club was willing to accept.

Arsenal move to Caicedo Brighton

A great move, a great player, and someone everyone wants to be. Will he go the way of Trossard? An offer of a low £60m.

Chelsea made a verbal offer of 55 million pounds for the midfielder, which was rejected this month. Brighton hopes to keep the 21-year-old, but Arsenal is pushing for an agreement, and negotiations are an essential juncture.

Shocking news, as Chelsea want to sign someone, anyone. Young Magee brings you the latest.

Jimmy Jackson qualifies for the Cup, and Preston take on Tottenham in a historic match at Dad’s Army on Saturday. Pic too. I’m not sure about the goalkeeper’s position.

Breaking the news from Wolves, who landed their leg after a tug of war, according to PA Media.

Wolves have agreed to sign Joao Gomez from Flamengo for £15m. The Palestinian News Agency understands that the midfielder is due to travel to England next week for treatment.

This marked the end of Wolves’ chase after they pressed hard, with Flamengo keen to see Gomez join Lyon. The Brazilian club has now agreed to let the 21-year-old move to Molineux with his preferred destination in the Premier League.

Gomez will become Julen Lopetegui’s sixth signing in January after Mario Lemina, Pablo Sarabia, Matheus Cunha, Craig Dawson and Dan Bentley.

Some bonus Liverpool transfer news, according to PA Media.

Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp did not rule out the departure of defender Nat Phillips before the end of the transfer window.

The 25-year-old is fifth-choice centre-back and has made just five appearances this season, and the recall of youngster Rhys Williams this week from a loan spell at Blackpool could pave the way for his departure.

“It depends if there are offers,” Klopp said when asked if Phillips could leave. “We have to be ready for almost everything, the 31st is deadline day and we’ll see.”

Jurgen Klopp speaks ahead of Liverpool’s return to Brighton. It didn’t go well last time, and I apologize for linking to my article, very bad form.

It’s still the worst game I’ve ever seen for one of my teams, and it’s still the same thank God we’ve played some games since then… We did well in moments and spells of matches. In the first half against Chelsea we were very disciplined and didn’t give them too much. We have to do it again against Brighton of course.

We have six or seven midfielders at their best, which is the ideal situation, but only three can start. You can’t make mistakes with lining up. Against Brighton, it is very important how we defend the first line. The goalkeeper is really calm, they only pass the ball if the front three don’t do well. It really comes down to how you defend.

Important column from Wycombe midfielder, David Wheeler, here.

I’m not saying gambling is bad, nor do I want to stop people from betting, but it does say everything you need to know about how the sport and the country is dealing with the public health issue we call our national league after the gambling company. The EFL’s deal with Sky Bet expires next season, and after Sky Betting and Gaming sent free tournaments to excluded gamblers themselves and preyed on fans with buy-in offers, I would urge the league to look elsewhere for its next sponsor.

It is clearly not the responsibility of footballers to set policy – that should be the responsibility of the government, the regulator and the governing bodies, all of whom have so far failed. The government has been reviewing gambling laws for about three years and it is their duty to protect young fans from harm. But players have a responsibility to speak up when something is clearly wrong with our supporters, the communities we represent, and even our colleagues.

Jurgen Klopp seems surprised by Sean Dyche’s arrival at Everton.

The couple has some history together.

Although Dyche also has some history with Everton players. inappropriate.

“I’m not sure Everton know how to win a game, guys.”

The big news of the week is, of course, the Guardian’s 100 Best Men’s Footballers, and here’s special projects director Marcus Kristenson on how we came up with the idea that Lionel Messi might actually be the best.

It should be noted that although there is a 35-year-old winner and the same winner 10 years ago, there is an abundance of talented young players.

Mbappe is clearly a potential winner in the future, but there are players younger than the 24-year-old on the list who are enjoying a rise in movement. Erling Haaland and Vinicius are 22 and round the top 10, while Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden, Jamal Musiala, Bukayo Saka, Badri, Gavi and Tchoameni are poised to improve their positions.

These two just love each other. It wasn’t long ago that Mikel Arteta was Jason Tindall to Pep Guardiola’s Eddie Howe and was supplying the team on the sidelines.

Brighton vs Liverpool looks to be the main draw in this week’s FA Cup.

Jurgen Klopp was adamant about making progress after Liverpool’s goalless draw at home to Chelsea, but a truer test awaits the hosts when they return to the Amex Stadium. Brighton overtook Liverpool in the Premier League two weeks ago, when Klopp described his team’s 3-0 defeat as one of the worst performances of his managerial career. Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, Joel Matip and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain were all pulled into a four-way substitution midway through the second half against Roberto De Zerbi’s polished side. None of them have started in the two games since. Eighteen-year-old Stefan Bagcetic seized his opportunity in midfield, injecting energy and bite previously lacking, while Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez capitalized on the improvement in front of them. Both managers must act aggressively with no midweek games to worry about. Klopp must hope De Zerby finds Liverpool unrecognizable. Andy Hunter

This is some meat on the bone from Andy Hunter.

Sean Dyche is set to be appointed Everton manager after Marcelo Bielsa told the club he would only take over in the summer.

Bielsa was the first choice for Everton owner Farhad Moshiri and he flew to London on Thursday for further talks with club officials. That raised their hopes of luring the Argentine to Goodison Park, despite his reservations about the club’s state and squad and his record of never taking over a European club mid-season.

The 67-year-old remained unconvinced to go to Everton at this stage, however, it is understood that negotiations are over. That paved the way for Daichi and the former Burnley manager could be appointed on Friday on a two-and-a-half-year contract.

Preamble

The fourth round of the FA Cup is here, starting with tonight’s fantastic game between Manchester City and Arsenal, although the big news comes first from Goodison Park, where Sean Dyche is set to be announced as Everton’s new manager. It appears that Marcelo Bielsa will not be coming in after all, and instead Ginger Ancelotti, or whatever we can jokingly call the former Burnley boss, is taking over. With Dwight McNeil and James Tarkowski in the ranks, there are two players to get a lookeylikey in the dressing room. And woe to anyone who wants to sit in on curry night. Sean Ditchie is back. But what does that mean for Everton?
