OMAHA, Neb. Creighton women’s tennis continued its winning streak Wednesday afternoon with a 7-0 victory over Southwest Minnesota State at the Hanscom Tennis Center.

The Bluejays improved to 5-0 on the season with the win, while Southwest Minnesota State fell to 1-3 overall. The 5-0 start to the season is the best record for a Creighton team under the head coach Tom Lilly.

– I thought we handled ourselves well and took care of things on our home field against a hot team, Lilly said. “We played strong and confident throughout the lineup and it didn’t allow them to make any of the games tight. Considering our injuries and illness this week, I was proud of how we controlled this game.”

Creighton started the match strong and earned the doubles point, winning all three doubles spots. Bianca Rademacher and Siri Kongara combined for a 6-0 win at No. 3, while Ana Paula Martinez and Valerie Negin won the first point of the match with a 6-1 victory over number 2. Leanne Kendall and Malvika Shukla also won the singles match at the top with a score of 6-2.

In singles, Creighton earned straight set wins, dropping a total of six games at all six positions.

Kongara continued his dominance, winning 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles as a sophomore. Allison Wilcox won an identical 6-0, 6-0 singles match at No. 6 for his first win of the season.

Shukla and Kendall posted 6-1, 6-0 wins at No. 1 and No. 3 singles. Martinez remained undefeated in singles (5-0) with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 3, while Annika Elvestrom took a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 5.

The Bluejays will return to action on February 14th at Kansas City. First inning between the Bluejays and Roos is scheduled for 1:00 p.m
