Welcome to Style Diary, a series in which we examine the physical manifestations of our wardrobe tour IRL. We asked friends and tasters to show us what they *actually* wore during the week and provide some insight into their thoughts on personal style.
The digital strategist for the world of art Jia Jiafei has three distinct personalities when it comes to dressing. I literally have three closets for these three personalities, he says. One is an everyday sports-oriented collection, which she notes as the default when nothing occupies her calendar. Everything is black and white, sportswear that looks homogeneous, except summer when it’s all neon. The next persona is more work oriented. This requires some more professional suits and attire. (Though we advise you to ignore whatever corporate image pops into your head; Fei’s suits are made from materials like pink wool or blue corduroy). The third manifestation of the creative style persona is all the most passionate statements, whimsical dresses, prints, she explains. Thankfully, her list of art world events provides the perfect platform for this form of expression. I’ve created three distinct archetypes in my life, keeping in mind what I need to dress for, she explains. Like, pick your fighter, which persona will I be today?
When it comes to such art events, creative expression is highly encouraged. I often dress in a way that recognizes a creative appreciation for aesthetics and a community of people who are highly sensitive to their own aesthetic environment, Contextualizes Fei. So I often think about what I wear in the context of art. He and other guests are also often photographed in this space. So Fei had the added element that he and his colleagues left a mark on the history of the art world. I have a feeling when people see art world footage of this era, it’s obviously going to be a masterpiece, but then [also] people who came to the opening and came to celebrate and support the artists, he mused. Fashion is as much a part of the story as the actual work of art you celebrate.

I really love suits because there is so much intentionality in any type of two-piece outfit. You just feel like the day served a purpose. So whenever I have a client meeting, or even sometimes on Zoom, I’ll wear a suit just to feel like I’m dressed for the day. Even though they have a pretty boring reputation, there are so many fun outfits out there. A colorful suit, a suit with texture, a suit that can be paired with something very unexpected. I wore this leopard dress underneath, which is not very conventional, but I think it’s a fun way to feel strong and assertive, to really know what you’re going to do, but still have fun with the colors and pulling the combinations together. Then, the one with glasses is Adam Selman [x Le Specs]. I wear them all the time.
“I’ve never been someone who, I think, is good and experimental with hair or makeup. So that’s why I really always have the same look. The front of my hair is always exactly that.” The same. I had these bangs forever, and then I let the rest of my hair grow out. And for my makeup too, I always want something really easy, classic. I also always have the same lipstick. , since one year, I bought a special Mac Ruby Woo lipstick for a Halloween costume. I really liked the way it looked, so I kept wearing it every day.

This winter, I have tried [wear less black] and get creative, because winters in New York can be depressing and dark. As long as I’m wearing something bright, but still warm, it really lifts my mood and gets me excited to get out and do something. I’m trying to really change this very dark season that we are in.

I wore these to dinner, and I think in the same way that color really helps me get through the winter, animal prints also subconsciously make me feel warm. There’s also something about the texture that gets me through the seasons. This is something that is super comfortable and I can keep wearing it from work day to night out for dinner.
Appearance 4: Birthday Dinner

Another animal print dress! I wore this for my birthday. I just wanted something fun that’s a bit classic, but still really catchy. I went to that restaurant, Milos, the Greek restaurant. I am also obsessed with their spiral staircase. There’s something about the animal print and the scenery, too, that really inspired me there. Then, it’s hard to find boots that are really eye-catching and fun for winter. My tabi is very easy; they go with everything. They are comfortable enough, at least for me. They’ve always been my go-to when it’s cold.

This is my girlfriend’s dog. The last time I was traveling in Korea, I saw a very cute Supreme dog vest that I bought needed get. And then I noticed that we both have red puffers, so I put a special puffer on this dog. I used to always wear all black, but I feel like I only have one outerwear that stands out, even though it’s sweatpants that I wear to the gym, really perk up my day and make it more fun.
