The Maple Grove girls hockey team fell one game short of the state tournament, losing 2-1 to Centennial/Spring Lake Park in the Section 5AA final.
Ella Olson opened the scoring for the Crimson in the second period, but Centennial tied it later in the second on a powerplay goal by Noelle Hemri.
Jaycee Chatleain scored the game-winning goal with 1:28 left in the third, tipping away a shot by Hemri.
Maple Grove goalkeeper Dani Strom and Centennial’s Kaitlin Groess each had 29 saves.
The Crimson finished the season with a 19-7-1 record.
The Cougars (21-6-1) will face top-seeded Minnetonka in the quarterfinals of the state tournament.
