Utter Insanity As Minnesota Hockey Fans Jump On Glass After 2OT State Title

[ad_1]

The Minnesota High School Hockey Tournament is one of the most flamboyant events in sports. A packed house of 20,000 fans at the Xcel Center in St. Paul to root on their local high school to victory.

Minnesota is the mecca of American hockey and “The Tournament” is a huge deal. Everyone comes to support their local high school. All! Brothers, sisters, parents, grandparents, friends, neighbors all the way to Sandra, the grocery store collector, spoke.

Men or women, it doesn’t matter. If your team is playing in “The Tourney”, you’ll be there.

In addition to the high-energy atmosphere and high-level hockey, The Tournament is a showcase for some of the best (loose definition) haircuts in the game. Players make the most of the back of their bucket with mullets, dye jobs, racerbacks, afros and free-hanging salads.

Mahtomed high school, which has about 1,200 students, is no exception. The Zephyrs had some of the best normal hair in this year’s tournament. They didn’t go crazy with the cuts, but there isn’t a player on the team with short hair. The flow raged and Wyatt Tarnowski stole the show!

As their rather well-manicured hair might suggest, Mahtomedi was ranked No. 3 and reached the state championship on Saturday. What happened next was downright bananas.

The Zephyrs rallied from 3-1, 4-2 and 5-3 losses, the latter of which was a two-goal deficit in the third period, to send the game into overtime. Mahtomed’s Charlie Drage took over and scored a hat trick to force overtime with less than a minute remaining.

Neither team scored in the first overtime, sending the game into the second. At 12:08 of the second overtime, Johnny Grove scored a backhand goal to win the Mahtomedia state championship with a fantastic rebound.

As soon as the goal sounded, there was a celebration. The Zephyrs skated to their student section and mayhem ensued.

Students climbed over the glass to join the party!

Incredible shot there Brianna Burnham captured the moment a fan wearing a crop top, shorts and a gold bucket got in on the action. It’s brilliant.

There is nothing else in sports, especially at the high school level, quite like The Tournament. The entire state championship week is electric and Mahtomed’s glass jump is a perfect example.
