WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue men’s tennis team is looking forward to a busy weekend as they open conference play against the 72nd ranked Indiana Hoosiers. The Boilers will face Indiana on Saturday, March 25 at 12 p.m., and close out the conference against Butler on Sunday, March 26 at 4 p.m.

The Boilers return to West Lafayette during spring break after a road loss to Denver. Purdue has had unlucky stints without Schwartz to start the year as they have been split in both road games. However, the non-conference slate ends this Sunday when the Butler Bulldogs arrive in West Lafayette for the second game of the weekend.

The two-game highlight is the latest addition to the storied rivalry between the Boilermakers and Hoosiers. Indiana enters the weekend with the No. 72 ranked team in America, but also boasts a ranked doubles team. Patrick Fletchall/Ilya Tiraspolsky appeared in this week’s ITA Tennis Rankings as the nation’s No. 70 doubles pair. They have a 7-1 record at No. 1 and are riding a four-game winning streak.

Purdue has the ability to match the Hoosiers in doubles Tomasz Dudek/Daniel Labrador are 4-3 at No. 1, with both players combining for nine doubles wins this spring. The Boilers haven’t won a singles point since Feb. 3 against DePaul, but they have won four of their last five contests in doubles.

The Boilermakers are 10-16 all-time against the Hoosiers. Last year’s 4-0 sweep ended a five-game losing streak. The last time the Boilers faced a ranked Hoosier team was March 1, 2017. The Boilermakers lost a 3-4 thriller to then-No. 37 Indiana in Bloomington.

The Butler Bulldogs also enter the weekend with an impressive 10-7 record, but the Boiler have a chance to steal the win at home as Butler is 2-6 on the spring.
