Hockey fan dies in escalator fall after Rangers game at MSG

The son of a former Big Apple restaurateur died after collapsing after a Rangers game at Madison Square Garden last weekend, officials said.

Ernest Vogliano, 61, was riding an escalator inside the world’s most famous arena when he plunged two to three stories to his death around 10:40 p.m. Saturday, sources told The Post.

His death was later ruled an accident, his family and authorities said.

Vogliano’s widow Lesa has now hired a lawyer to get to the bottom of the case, claiming she was kept in the dark about how it all happened.

“We have no idea what happened, but they do,” the family’s attorney, Fred Eisenberg, told The Post. “We need to review the evidence.

“We know he was there and we know he died,” Eisenberg said. “We’d like to know how.”

The NYPD reported a 911 call about an injured person at the arena around 10:40 p.m. Saturday and found an unresponsive man suffering from a head injury.

Vogliano was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

An FDNY representative said Wednesday that it had no record of the call to the Garden, so it was not immediately clear how Vogliano was transported to the hospital.

An autopsy conducted by the city medical examiner determined Vogliano died of blunt force trauma and ruled his death in the garden an accident.

But Eisenberg said Lesa was never given the details, prompting him Wednesday to send MSG officials a request that all evidence related to Vogliano’s death, including surveillance video, be preserved until it can be reviewed.

The incident comes as the New York State Liquor Authority is investigating MSG owner James Dolan’s business, which could see the agency revoke the liquor licenses of not just the Garden, but Radio City Music Hall and the Beacon Theater.

Dolan is also excited about using facial recognition technology to keep unwanted fans out of the venue — including lawyers with whom he has a legal partnership.

In an email sent Wednesday, an MSG representative called Vogliano’s death a “tragic accident” unrelated to the state’s alcohol investigation.

“A fan from last Saturday’s Rangers game was injured in a tragic accident while leaving the venue and was immediately transported to a local hospital where he died,” the email said. “Our deepest and heartfelt condolences to his loved ones.”

Vogliano’s father, the late Ernest Sr., was the longtime owner of Il Vagabondo restaurant on East 62nd Street. It was a former Italian social court that evolved into a popular eatery, patrons including Cindy Crawford and Tom Hanks in its heyday.

The younger Vogliano was the founder of Monster Productions, a New York web design firm, and published the Aspen Aces & Eights magazine.
