Women’s golf takes second at Anuenue Spring Break Classic

LAHAINA, Hawaii #25 Pepperdine women’s golf gets off to a hot start at the Anuenue Spring Break Classic, played at the par-72, 6,013-yard K’anapali Golf Course, finishing second after the first round with a score of 284.

The Waves combined to shoot four under on Monday, led by both Higo the lion and Yingzhi Zhu in the top 10. Higo finished the day in a tie for sixth with a 3-under 69, while Zhu opened the tournament with a 2-under 70 in a tie for 10^th.

Pepperdine leads #30 UCLA by two strokes and West Coast Conference’s Santa Clara by three. Other WCC schools include BYU, San Francisco and Gonzaga, who are No. 7^thdraw -8^th and a draw -10^th respectively. Denver leads the pack with 13-under 275 days.

• JuniorHigo the lion(Gold Coast, Australia) tied for sixth place after shooting a 69 in the first round. He had four birdies for 3-under.
• FreshmanYingzhi Zhu(Nanjing, China) is exactly 10th^th after a 2-under 70 to start things off. He posted three birdies.
• Second year student Lauren Gomez(Murrieta, California) is tied for 29th^th. He even shot a couple of opening rounds and had three birdies on the day.
• Senior Reese Guzman (Kahului, Hawaii) is tied for 36th^th. He had two birdies en route to a 1-over 73.
• Junior Kaleiya Romero (San Jose, California) is exactly 40th^th74. He had five birdies, four of which alone were on the front nine.
• Second year student Ka Yee Kwok (Tianjin, China) played as an individual and finished in zone 11 with 77^th with one bird.

The Waves resume the tournament tomorrow, beginning at 11 a.m. PT on holes 1-3. The team will play in the second round with Denver and UCLA.
