South Florida’s Erik Grevelius was named AAC Player of the Week

TAMPA (March 28, 2023) – University of South Florida Men’s Tennis Tournament Erik Grevelius has been named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the week ending March 27, the conference announced Tuesday. This is Grevelius’ first AAC weekly award with the Bulls and the team’s first of the season.

A junior from Stockholm, Sweden and a transfer from the University of Georgia, Grevelius went 4-0 in singles and doubles last week as he led the Bulls to a doubleheader win against No. 58 Florida Atlantic (4-3). and Wichita State (7-0). He scored a pair of straight-set wins at No. 3 singles, picking up wins against the Owls 6-1, 6-2 and the Shockers 6-1, 7-6 (6). Grevelius added 6-2 and 6-4 victories at No. 2 doubles to help South Florida extend its winning streak to five matches.

On the year, Grevelius is 8-8 in singles and 10-6 in doubles. During the past weekend, the junior has won four consecutive matches in doubles Alvin Tudorica and is 7-2 in his last nine meetings with Tudorica and Tudorica David Tortora.

South Florida, ranked No. 54 in this week’s Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings (March 28), returns to the USF Varsity Tennis Courts for the first of back-to-back contests when it faces No. 50 SMU on April 2. and then Tulane on April 3 with both games starting at 1:30 p.m
