Jackman had an excellent 9th place finish at the Bearkat Invitational

MONTGOMERY, Texas Central Michigan Arie Jackman shot a 3-over 75 Tuesday in the final round of the Huntsville Toyota Bearkat Invitational at Walden on Lake Conroe Golf Club.

Jackman finished the 54-hole event with a total score of 2-214 and was tied for ninth in the field of 88 players.

It’s the best finish by a CMU men’s golfer and the first top 10 since the program was reborn this season after a 36-year hiatus.

The Chippewa golfer’s previous best finish this season was tied for 27th^thauthor Philippe Yturralde in September at the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational.

On Monday, Jackman shot a modern-day 18-hole record 3-under 69 in the opening round, then shot a 2-under 70 in the second round for a total of 139, also the modern-day 36-hole record. .

His total of 214 is a Chippewa best through 54 holes this season. He entered the final round at 5 under and in a seven-way tie for second place.

Jackman, a junior transfer from Grand Rapids Community College, is the only non-freshman on the CMU roster. He led the Chippewas to a team total of 310 in Tuesday’s final round as CMU finished at No. 13^th14th place in the team series with 911.

Also for CMU on Tuesday, Easton Phillips shot 77, Orlando Coons and Ethan Jaehn each posted 79 and Jeffrey Andrus card 84.

Phillips finished 229 overall; Coons, 233; Jaehn, 235; and Andrus, 246.

The Chippewas are scheduled to play at Indiana Hoosier Collegiate on Saturday and Sunday, August 8-9. April in Bloomington, Ind.

Texas A&M’s Phichaksn Maichon finished with a 5-under 67 to finish at 11-under 205 on the medalist list. Bret Gray host Sam Houston State tied for second, five shots back, after a final-round 6-under 66.

Sam Houston State recorded 277 teams for a total of 842 on Tuesday. The Bearkats beat runner-up North Alabama (868) by 26 strokes. Stetson (869) was third.
