Marcus Rashford gives honest response to criticism over Manchester United away results

Marcus Rashford believes Manchester United “have to find a way” to improve their record away from Old Trafford this season.

United have taken just one point against Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool – who are their ‘Big Six’ Premier League rivals – away from home this season and have conceded 17 goals in those matches.

The Reds’ performances on the road did not reflect their strong form at Old Trafford and the weekend’s 2-0 loss to Newcastle at St. James’ Park, a match in which the North East side dominated , again highlighted the problem.

A disgruntled Erik ten Hag wanted his players to respond to that disappointing loss to Newcastle and, just three days later, the side secured three important points with a 1-0 win over Brentford at Old Trafford.

Rashford scored the only goal in the scrappy victory and he discussed the team’s need to improve their away record.

“We created some decent chances against a team that was pretty tough to break down,” Rashford told MUTV. “They showed it, I think it’s their first loss in 15 or 16 games. I think in the first half we were solid and created chances.

“Then obviously when you get the goal it starts to open up a bit more and we’ve had better chances. There’s always a good atmosphere in the dressing room after a 1-0 win because that means we have defended well throughout the game.

“After the last game, that’s what we needed, to keep a clean sheet. We’ve been good at home this season. There have been away games where we’ve played good football, but sometimes we don’t have the result.

“But as always, the most important thing is to get the three points. We have to find a way to do that away from home and try to shake things up.”
