Varsity Four, third varsity eight earn wins on day two of Big Ten Invitational

SARASOTA, Fla. The 12th-ranked Duke rowing program wrapped up competition at the Big Ten Invite in Sarasota, Fla., on Saturday.

The Varsity Four and Third Varsity Eight defeated three nationally ranked crews after edging boats from SMU, Rutgers and Indiana by two seconds.

HOW DID IT HAPPEN

• Another Varsity Eight opened the second day of action for the Blue Devils with a time of 6:28.484 to finish fourth.
• The Varsity Eight and Second Varsity Four boats collected a pair of second-place times of 6:20.320 and 7:14.430, respectively, closely trailing first-place SMU.
• The Blue Devils finished the competition strong with two top finishes in the Varsity Four and Third Varsity Eight competitions. The V4 recorded a time of 7:06.440, while the 3V8 recorded a winning time of 6:42.738.
