Big picture – Knight Riders looking for quick fixes
Forty-eight hours after playing at home against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Kolkata Knight Riders will play an away match, which happens to be an afternoon game. Mumbai Indians, their opponents, on the other hand, start the home competition after a five-day break. Knight Riders are among three teams – along with Gujarat Titans and Punjab Kings – to play back-to-back matches in this IPL within a 48-hour cycle; i.e. a night game followed by an afternoon game two days later.
Both teams have significant question marks. For the Knight Riders, it’s all about hitting their fast bowlers. Overall this season, their seam has posted the worst numbers in terms of batting average, strike rate and economy. They have also taken the fewest wickets – seven – despite having experienced heads like Umesh Yadav, Tim Southee and Lockie Ferguson.

Team news – David Wiese could replace Andre Russell
If Archer is gone, Riley Meredith will continue.
The Knight Riders are keeping their fingers crossed for Russell’s condition – he has reportedly been suffering from cramps. If he is on the bench, David Wiese could be a likely replacement.

Pitch and terms
Dry weather is expected and the afternoon temperature will be in the early 30s.
Statistics that matter
- Sunil Narine has bowled one over in every match this season. Expect him to continue this trend as he has dismissed Mumbai captain Rohit Sharma seven times in the IPL – the most by a bowler.
- Rohit is 44 runs short of becoming the fourth Indian batsman to score 6000 runs in the IPL. He also needs to hit five more sixes to become the first Indian batsman and third to reach 250 sixes in the tournament.
Quotation marks
“We’re getting great support here and we want to make this a fortress. We want to get good results here all the time and get to something where we’re confident about the kind of cricket we’re going to play and take on every team.”
Tim David hopes that Mumbai can turn Wankhede into a fortress.
