It remains unclear whether continuous glucose monitoring benefits people without diabetes, the researchers reported.
In a recent study, they found a discrepancy between the glucose management indicator (GMI), a continuous glucose monitoring measure that estimates HbA1c, and HbA1c measured in the laboratory.

“Based on the results of our study, it would not be appropriate to use GMI as a substitute for HbA1c in people without diabetes,” Viral N. Shah, MD, an associate professor of medicine and pediatrics at the Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes Adult Clinic at the University of Colorado’s Anschutz Medical Campus, Healio told Healio.
It was the first story in endocrinology last week.
The second lead article focused on a study of the potential for using genetic testing to aid in the diagnosis of congenital hypothyroidism in children. The researchers reported that genetic testing led to a change in diagnosis for 10 out of 48 children with congenital hypothyroidism.
