April 20 (Reuters) – Pakistan has appointed former coach Mickey Arthur as its director of cricket, the Cricket Board (PCB) said on Thursday.
A former coach of South Africa, Australia and Sri Lanka, Arthur led Pakistan from 2016 to 2019 when they won the 2017 Champions Trophy and emerged as the best T20 team in the world.
The Johannesburg-born 54-year-old is Derbyshire’s head coach and will now also oversee Pakistan’s strategy.
“I am really excited to rejoin the Pakistan cricket team and look forward to working with the group,” said Arthur. – Ever since I’ve moved on, I’ve been keeping track of the players and their collective performances.
“This is a talented group with the potential to be number one in all formats and I will try to implement strategies and create an environment that can contribute to their performance.”
Arthur will also serve as a member of Pakistan’s coaching staff for this year’s Cricket World Cup in India and the home series against the West Indies, the tour of Australia and the Asia Cup.
