No jury trial scheduled for next week…blame Fiesta

[ad_1]

SAN ANTONIO It’s a Fiesta tradition you may not have heard of – no new jury trials for the week.

While the judges are still holding hearings and the Justice Center is open, the central jury room will be empty as revelers descend on downtown San Antonio for the event.

No Jury during Fiesta Week is nothing new. In fact, it started years ago because there were Fiesta events around the Justice Center that forced streets to be closed.

There aren’t many big events in this downtown area yet, but construction, rising parking fees, and traffic are still a problem.

We don’t want to put anyone under more stress than necessary, said Julieta Schulze, chief usher of the central jury.

So what are you going to do if you get a jury summons next week?

Look carefully at the summons because you will not show up at the central jury room.

If you get a subpoena, it’s probably your constituency asking you and they’re arranging trials, Schulze said.

Judging will resume on May 1 and Schulze predicts it will be a very busy week.

As a reminder, jury duty is no longer done on Zoom and you must now appear in person.
