St. Mary’s College of Maryland Women’s Tennis Team Wins Second Consecutive United East Conference Championship

HERSHEY, PA – The St. Mary’s College of Maryland women’s tennis team traveled to Hershey, Pennsylvania to take on Penn State Harrisburg in the United East Conference Championship at the Hershey Racquet Club. The Seahawks beat the Nittany Lions 5-3 to become United East Conference champions for the second year in a row.

The Seahawks won two of the three doubleheaders. Diana Levit and Hannah Gorel trailed the Nittany Lions 8-6 at No. 1 singles, while Amber Manspeaker and Sydney Anderson blanked their opponents 8-0 at No. 2. Giselle Harris and Ellie Walter won the tie at the third doubles spot to secure the doubles Total Score 8-7.

In singles play, the Seahawks won three matches. Diana Levit lost to her Nittany Lion opponent in two sets at No. 1 singles. Hannah Gorel lost a tight three-set match at No. 1 singles. Amber Manspeaker won her match in two sets at number three, while Sydney Anderson won her match in three sets at number four. Giselle Harris picked up the win for the Seahawks by taking down her opponent at number five, winning in two runs.

The Seahawks will automatically qualify for the NCAA Tournament, and the opponent, time and location will be announced in the selection program on the NCAA website on Monday, May 1 at 12:30 p.m. The first round of the NCAA tournament will be played next weekend, May 5th and 6th.

St. Mary’s College of Maryland has had a successful season so far with a 13-5 record and 6-2 in the United East Conference. The team has been led by head coach Erin McDonnell, who has been with the program since 2015.

The United East Conference Championship was a tough matchup for the Seahawks as Penn State Harrisburg has also had a strong season with a 14-6 overall record and 7-1 in the United East Conference. However, the Seahawks managed to rally and secure their second straight conference title.

The St. Mary’s College of Maryland women’s tennis team is excited about the NCAA tournament and is ready to give it their all in the upcoming matches. The team has worked hard all season to get to this point and they are ready to leave it all on the field.
