Olivia Wilde and Margaret Zhang Respond to Wearing the Same Dresses for the 2023 Met Gala

Olivia Wilde and Margaret Zhang have no hard feelings.

After Do not worry dear actress and chief editor Chinese Fashion waltzing into the 2023 Met Gala in opposite colors of the same gown, the duo is full of laughs about the viral moment.

Both Wilde and Zhang wore Chlo skirts based on the design of 40-year-old Karl Lagerfeld in honor of the evening’s theme, “Karl Lagerfeld: The Beauty Line.”

Wilde first walked the red carpet in a white version of the side-cut gown, created by creative director Chlo Gabriela Hearst; Zhang followed that with a black iteration of the floor-length gown featuring a ruffled skirt and cape with a long train with gold trimmings at the bottom.

As soon as the latter arrived, the internet quickly took notice and created memes about the two twins. However, instead of holding grudges, the two joined in on the joke.

The actress noticed a double take that day, posting a side-by-side photo of the two on her Instagram Story and the original outfit with compliments for Zhang. “What a great thought,” he wrote. “If you’re going to be twins with anyone, make it @margaretzhang.”

Zhang saw Wilde’s post shortly after, reposting it on her Story and adding “CUE THE STRINGS”, jokingly nodding to the violin design in the middle of their dresses and becoming the center of many memes about the look.

The jokes don’t stop there; Wilde reposted a meme created by startup Deel, in which her bright white bodice is associated with the persona of a possible angel featured in “1:1 with my boss” while Zhang’s cool blue hair and dark dress are compared to “Zoomies with my favorite coworkers”. The actress simply reacted to the cute comparison with a crying laughing emoji.

Hearst also posted a picture of Wilde admiring a dress similar to the one Zhang wore that was showcased at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Karl Lagerfeld exhibition, also giving a nod to the twinning moment.
