In a new memo from senior advisors Susie Wiles and Chris LaCivita, Donald Trump’s campaign mocks Ron DeSantis’ political operation.
“DeSantis is burning money just to slide in the polls,” the political pros insisted.
The memo skewers the DeSantis-friendly Never Back Down super PAC for a “fleecing on an epic scale” with millions of dollars spent to no good effect.
“The PAC sent thousands of texts, spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on digital advertising in several states and ordered campaign swag that could fill the leadership vacuum the Florida Governor left while campaigning (known -horror) in other European countries,” Wiles and LaCivita wrote.
“So, put bluntly, what you’re witnessing is a fleecing on an epic scale. Tens of millions of donor dollars have been spent, while the poll numbers are dropping.”
The consultants said “Never Back Down spent more than $7.2 million on TV ads in the past three weeks.” That money isn’t the whole story, however.
“The $7.2 million does not include the thousands of pieces of voter contact mail, sent to GOP Primary voters in many states including an 8 page ‘novel’ that cost hundreds of thousands of dollars in postage alone!”
The polls reflect both “worrying trends for Ron DeSantis: the complete collapse of his position in the GOP nomination for President, as well as his ability to defeat Joe Biden,” Wiles and LaCivita wrote.
“Recent national polls give President Trump his widest margin over Ron DeSantis, beating DeSantis by 36 and 34 points according to CBS News and Morning Consult. Emerson sees Trump beating DeSantis by 62% to 16%, a 16-point swing toward Trump since February. Fox News shows Trump leading DeSantis by 32 percent. In the general election, Rasmussen shows President Trump with a 7-point lead over Joe Biden 48 up to 41 percent and the latest Harvard/Harris Poll has President Trump trailing Joe Biden by 5.”
Although the polls varied, the overall trend was grim for the Florida Governor. The FiveThirtyEight polling average shows a 52% to 23% lead for Trump, with other names in the single digits.
