Bear Market Pushes Crypto Events to Cut Fluff and Prioritize Speech

[ad_1]

The extended crypto winter has prompted crypto event organizers to tone down the lavishness, allowing attendees to focus on smarter questions about regulation and taxation.

Crypto conferences attract all kinds of the crypto space, from founders and high-level executives to crypto influencers and everyday users.

Tiffany Fong, a crypto vlogger who rose to prominence interviewing former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried after the exchange collapsed, is attending crypto conferences for the first time this year.

Speaking to Cointelegraph, Fong, who attended both Bitcoin Miami 2023 and NFT NYC 2023, said she couldn’t talk about how conferences used to go in bull markets, but other attendees said it was lighter on the entertainment side this year.

People have named huge DJs who have performed at past conferences during bull markets and point out that parties and events are much quieter this year.

Fong isn’t too bothered that this year is more tame as she believes the enthusiasm for crypto remains strong and is an opportunity to meet others in the industry.

During this weekend, XRP Las Vegas, a conference for XRP fanatics (XRP) and the XRP army took place on May 6-7 in the gambling capital of the United States.

Attendees showed great optimism about the future of cryptos, pro-XRP lawyer John Deaton told Cointelegraph.

Deaton, who has been an active social media commentator throughout the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Ripple lawsuit, said XRP fans were asking smart and thoughtful questions at the conference. Still, he could sense the frustration in their questions.

I wouldn’t classify their emotion as fear but as frustration, because it shouldn’t be so difficult or take so long to achieve regulatory clarity in the United States.

Deaton further added that the frustration was with SEC Chairman Gary Genslers regulating an enforcement approach to crypto, after the SEC took action against several crypto firms lately.

Regulation also seems to be a priority for the crypto community in Australia.

Regulations were by far the most popular talking point among attendees at Binance Australia’s latest meetup event on May 3, according to Ben Rose, Managing Director of Binance Australia and New Zealand.

Rose told Cointelegraph that the crypto tax was another topic that garnered a high level of interest from attendees.

He added that there is still interest from the crypto-curious despite the bear market.

More recently, many newcomers have been asking beginner-level questions, which is encouraging.

Rose pointed out that Australian crowds were starting to get excited about a possible bull run [given] the price of bitcoin has gone up.
