EIU Baseball finishes cleaning up in Lindenwood

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois baseball (29-18, 10-11OVC) completed a three-game conference sweep of Ohio Valley Conference newcomer Lindenwood with a 16-6 victory Saturday night. EIU was the home team due to a schedule change.

Ryan Ignoffo continues his top game in the conference with a 3-6 day that includes a double, a home run and four hits. Logan Eikchoff also added two doubles and four RBIs to lead EIU to its 29th win.

Jonathon Hanscom (W, 1-1) picked up his first win of the season after coming on in the second inning and pitching four frames. He allowed two earned runs and had three strikeouts. Ignoffo also pitched the final three innings with four Ks.

For the third straight game against Lindenwood, EIU scored first with a five-run single in the first inning. Eickhoff and Grant Lashure posted back-to-back RBI doubles in the inning Ja’Lil Akbar added another RBI single to put EIU up 5-0 after one.

A starting pitcher Jackson Nichols jumped to second and gave away three runs before Hanscom took over. Lindenwood didn’t score until the fifth inning.

In the bottom of the second, Ignoffo hit his 14th home run of the season and second of the series to give the Panthers a 7-3 advantage. Cole Gober would later score with an assist.

Goes to sixth with a 9-6 advantage, Kolten Poorman and Eickhoff scored two more runs to push the lead to five. Ignoffo, Robby Tauland Jared Evans added three more RBI hits to extend the lead to nine runs.

After three scoreless innings with Ignoffo on the mound, EIU hit the 10-run rule mark in the bottom of the eighth. Lincoln Riley scored on a wild pitch to end the game.

Eastern Illinois finished with 16 runs on 15 hits, while Lindenwood scored six runs on eight hits. EIU returns to action on Tuesday for Wednesday’s game at Western Illinois. For more updates, visit eiupanthers.com.
