Birthday party

Sharon (Bicknell) North invites you to help her celebrate her 89th birthdayth birthday on June 4 in Seniorit Hall. No gifts please. Tea and visit will be held from 1 to 4 in the afternoon.

Fairs for pensioners

Plans for the Senior Citizens Fair, organized by Dan Davies, are progressing well. Dan has 30 booths booked by elderly support agencies. The fair will be held at the Pomeroy Hotel and Conference Center on June 15th from 11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Table tennis for health

I recently read in People’s Friend magazine about the benefits of playing table tennis for people with Parkinson’s disease. Table tennis is played in the seniors’ hall every Tuesday and Thursday morning. If you think that it could be a healthy exercise for you and you want to try it, you are warmly welcome.

Jam session

The Tuesday afternoon Jam Sessions at the Seniors Hall are off to a good start. Thanks to Karen Simpson for bringing this idea to us and seeing it through. People start coming to dance. More musicians are welcome to join.

Evacuees from wildfires

Seniors sheltering in Fort St. John who have been evacuated due to wildfires are welcome to Seniors Hall on Tuesday and Thursday mornings to participate in activities and see what we do on other days. Although we all hope that the rain will come; we’re not holding our breath.

Team work is valued

I am impressed with the surgical area at Fort St. John Hospital. I went in at 6:45 on May 1stSt for planned hernia surgery. I was cared for by 2 nurses, two doctors and an anesthesiologist. And the surgery was routine. People worked as a team, each doing their own job. When I left, I realized why surgeries are sometimes canceled due to staff shortages. If one person had been absent, the others would not have been able to focus on their own work. Interesting how each person can be important in doing the work.

Better at home

Since I won’t be able to vacuum for a few weeks, I contacted Laura Beamish at Better at Home (250-785-8880). They do light housekeeping and that has been helpful.

Quote of the week

“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: What are you doing for others?” – Martin Luther King, Jr.
