As the race for the 2024 Republican Party presidential nomination heats up, Donald Trump’s legal woes continue to intensify as a maintenance worker makes shocking claims about the handling of classified documents at Mar-a-Lago .
The worker recalled helping move the boxes into a storage room just one day before the Department of Justice visited Mar-a-Lago to search for the papers, The New York Times reported.
The worker did not know what the boxes contained at the time.
The timing of the move is suspicious and a sign that there may have been a snag, according to The Washington Post, which also reports a dress rehearsal of the move took place before the subpoena for the boxes was issued.
It came as Mr Trump’s lawyers called for a meeting with Attorney General Merrick Garland, in what marked the clearest sign yet that an indictment could be on the horizon in the classified documents case.
Mr Trump also appeared in court via video for a second hearing in his criminal hush money case on Tuesday, and E Jean Carroll filed an outstanding defamation case against the former president as Ron DeSantis entered the race in 2024.

Alex Woodward reports Judge Mehta’s damning words:
US District Judge Amit Mehta told the court on 25 May that seditious conspiracy is among the most serious crimes an individual American can commit and an offense against the people of the country.
What we can’t have, we really can’t have, is a group of citizens who because they don’t like the outcome are willing to take up arms to incite a revolution. That’s what you did, he told Rhodes. You are not a political prisoner, Mr Rhodes.
For decades, Rhodes wanted American democracy to end in violence, Judge Mehta said.
You, sir, present a constant threat and danger to this country and its democracy and the very fabric of this country, he added. You’re smart, you’re compelling, and you’re charismatic. Actually, that’s what makes you dangerous.

It’s not always like this.
Before Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis were leading rivals for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, they were allies.
Trump gave DeSantis’ gubernatorial bid an early boost by tweeting his support even before DeSantis formally entered the race. In his 2018 victory speech, DeSantis made sure to thank the president, saying, “I think there’s been a great partnership.”
Here’s how DeSantis and Trump’s relationship developed and soured as the two faced off against Democrat Joe Biden:
