Brazil are still clinging to Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti

Brazilian Football Confederation president Ednaldo Rodrigues has admitted they are still waiting on Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti as they search for a new permanent coach for their national football team.

The country has been without a coach since Tite resigned following a World Cup exit to Croatia in December’s quarter-final loss. Interim coach Ramon Menezes has taken over, but only temporarily.

“Our Plan A is still exactly that [to appoint Ancelotti]. We have a feeling it could work. We will wait for the end of the competition [in Spain]”, Rodrigues said while speaking in an interview with Band TV.

“The championship is already Barcelona, ​​but we are waiting for the end of the competition because we have an intuition that it can succeed,” he continued. “If I were in his place, strictly on contract, I wouldn’t disparage the company that hired me to do it either.”

Why are Brazil so keen on Ancelotti?

Despite winning, Ancelotti, who also recently managed Paris Saint-Germain, Napoli and Everton, has no experience coaching at international level. His last job with the national team was in the early 1990s, when he was an assistant to Italy coach Arrigo Sacchi.

“We want someone who has a project not only for the senior team but also for the grassroots teams like the U23, U20 and U17 teams who can act as pitchers,” explained Rodrigues.

“[Ancelotti] is a coach who has that vision and has the courage to invest new talent in playing,” he added. “Therefore, without undermining other coaches we respect – and Brazil has many coaches we respect because they are competent – We are still waiting.”

Brazil’s national team will face Guinea in Barcelona on June 17 and then Senegal in Lisbon on June 20 in both friendlies. Rodrigues emphasized that he wants to have a clear vision of the future by then, even if Ancelotti or an alternative coach are not yet in the hot seat.

Ancelotti is not interested in his future

The Real Madrid coach has refused to bet on his future in recent weeks, with his reaction to questions consistently along the same lines as when he spoke at the Copa del Rey final earlier this month, when he said: “Whatever happens, my future is clear, I is a contract until 2024.”

He has already started planning the 2023/24 campaign with his squad, including his son and assistant Davide, along with the club’s general manager, José Ángel Snchez. This includes decisions on the future of a number of players, with the likes of Marco Asensio, Dani Ceballos and Nacho out of contract this summer.

Another deciding factor could be the future of Karim Benzema. The Frenchman has an offer from Saudi Arabia, which could see Los Blancos lose their top scorer this summer. If so, Ancelotti and Snchez will be pressuring club president Florentino Prezi to invest heavily in the squad to boost Jude Bellingham’s imminent arrival from Borussia Dortmund.
