CBS News spotted Trump’s legal team walking through the Justice Department. They didn’t speak as they entered the building in Washington, and they stayed for less than two hours.

Special counsel Jack Smith is investigating the former president after documents with classified markings from his White House tenure were discovered at Trump’s Florida residence, Mar-a-Lago, in August 2022. Prosecutors are also looking into whether there are efforts to thwart attempts to recover the records, according to multiple sources close to the investigation.

Multiple sources with knowledge of the investigation believe a charging decision in the documents case is imminent, and Trump’s lawyers in recent days are expected to meet at some point with the Justice Department to discuss where they stand. things and potentially lay out their concerns about the efforts of prosecutors so far.

Trump’s lawyers, Rowley and Trusty, wrote a letter in May complaining that their client was being treated “unfairly” and asking to “discuss the ongoing injustice being perpetrated by your Special Counsel and his prosecutors.”

Special counsel Jack Smith’s office declined to comment.
