Madonna appeared weak in recent photos shared online before she was taken to intensive care after suffering a “serious” infection.

The 64-year-old singer contracted a “serious bacterial infection” earlier this week.

The star was preparing for her upcoming tour, which was set to celebrate the 40th anniversary of her debut album before it was postponed.

A few days ago, Madonna shared a series of snaps on Instagram, captioning it: “The calm before the storm………….”

It’s believed she’s been doing 12 hours a day and “training hard” for weeks, according to Page Six.

One photo showed her lying on the floor with her eyes closed during rehearsals.

This comes after Madonna’s family said they feared her death after being admitted to intensive care.

Guy Oseary, her talent manager, said in a statement: “On Saturday, June 24, Madonna developed a serious bacterial infection that led to her staying in the intensive care unit for several days.

“Her health is improving, but she remains under medical care. She is expected to make a full recovery.”

“At this time we will need to pause all commitments, including the tour. We will share more details with you as they become available, including a new start date for the tour and rescheduled shows.”

Madonna’s family were said to be “preparing for the worst” as she was reported to have had her tube inserted overnight.

“In the past couple of days, no one really knew which direction this was going to go, and her family was preparing for the worst,” a relative told MailOnline.

“That’s why it’s been kept secret since Saturday. Everyone thought we might lose it and that’s the reality of the situation.”
