Verstappen won’t blame updates for poor balance in Hungary

Max Verstappen was unhappy with the balance of his car after F1 qualifying in Hungary. In a weekend where Red Bull Racing released new updates, the link between the two was quickly made. However, Verstappen thinks it’s too short.

RB19 Updates

Verstappen was three thousandths short of taking pole for the Hungarian Grand Prix, but the Dutchman then held on with a face of thunder. The whole weekend had not been to Verstappen’s taste and this line continued in qualifying. In particular, Verstappen complained bitterly about the balance.

During the press conference, Verstappen was asked about these balance issues and if it could be related to the new updates. “No, just the balance of the car. ”Max also says the car’s inconsistent performance has nothing to do with the RB19 updates. “No, I don’t think so, because we tried several things and the upgrade seems good. It’s just that we couldn’t balance the car. As simple as that.”

Competition for Verstappen

Verstappen has already landed seven poles in 2023, including the last five in a row. Although every Saturday is exciting, Verstappen often shy away from competition on Sundays. In Hungary, this competition is tighter for once and so Verstappen was asked if he doesn’t think it’s positive that it’s much more exciting now.

“Yeah, I mean sure, for everyone, it looks good, right? I mean, I’m not happy with how my qualifying went, just because of the balance. It has nothing to do with gaps with other teams. But of course I think qualifying was very exciting because in every session you basically didn’t really know who was going to be the fastest, did you? So I think it’s a good thing,” concluded the Dutchman.

At 2:00 p.m. BST, the Hungarian Grand Prix will begin with Lewis Hamilton starting from pole. This once again puts the big rivals of 2021 side by side on the starting grid. Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri also impressed on Saturday and could start the race from the second row of the grid.
