Prince Charles has spoken about the arrival of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s baby girl.
The Prince of Wales on Tuesday took a tour of the BMW Mini plant in Oxford, UK, where he delivered a speech on the birth of his fifth grandson, Lilipet Diana, while giving a speech on the development of battery-powered cars.
Charles, 72, declared to the public that “the development of technology such as electric cars … is vital to keeping our world healthy for future generations, something I only know today, having become very recently for the fifth time.” (Via a tweet shared by ITV royal editor Chris Ship.)
According to Ship, Harry’s father added, “Such happy news really reminds us of the need for continued innovation in this field – especially in terms of sustainable battery technology – given the legacy we leave to our grandchildren.”

Charles’ comment comes amid intense family drama between him and his youngest son Harry in recent months. Just two months after the Duke of Sussex confirmed his strained relationship with his father in a televised interview with Oprah Winfrey in March, the 36-year-old revealed more about his upbringing and the way his father failed as a parent in his new mental health-focused documentary series, “I Don’t You can see it.”
Amid media scrutiny and being “stalked” by paparazzi as a child, Harry in the series blames the Prince of Wales for doing little to protect him and his brother Prince William.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed their second child on Friday.
The baby was born weighing 7 pounds, 11 ounces. In a statement, the spokeswoman said the mother and child are in good health and are staying at home.
The Sussexes thanked their supporters for their kindness as they announced the latest addition to their family.
“On the 4th of June, we were blessed with the arrival of our daughter, Lily. She is more than we could have ever imagined, and we remain grateful for the love and prayers we have felt from all over the world,” the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said in a written statement. “Thank you for your kindness and continued support during this very special time for our family.”
