TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – What is the difference in a year. The abandoned puppy, who was near death when he was found in February 2020, is now happy, healthy and featured on billboards in Tallahassee.
WCTV shared the story of abandoned puppies in February 2020. Someone had thrown them out Decatur County Humane Society.
Jiminy Cricket was the smallest, with only skin and bones and weighed three pounds when he was rescued and rushed to the vet.
The vet said I don’t think he would survive the first night, but he literally refused to die, Shannon Colavecchio told WCTV a few weeks after the rescue. Colavecchio was the mother of Jiminy Crickets, and later adopted her.
Sounds cheesy, but stories like Jiminys remind us that while things look very, very hopeless, there is hope and that it’s worth coping with it and coping with it on the other side, Colavecchio said.
Jiminy is definitely on the other side now. She is 80 pounds and loves the ball in the backyard.
The Leon County Humane Society will showcase him on billboards in Tallahassee as it promotes his Paw Prints calendar, one of their biggest fundraisers of the year.
Its a fun and cool way to give back, said LCHS CEO Lisa Glunt. It’s a big boost for us as donations tend to drop in the summer. So perfect timing.
People can vote for 12 of their favorite pets and cover designs. Each vote raises a dollar to help LCHS continue to rescue and care for abandoned, malnourished and injured animals.
Glunt said LCHS takes about 1,000 dogs, cats and other pets year-round.

Jiminy and some of last year’s contest winners, such as cat Larry and dog Annie, are currently featured on billboards around Tallahassee, hoping to encourage people to name their pets and vote for their favorites.
